14 HOUR PRE-LICENSING CLASS (6 Classroom/8 Driving Hours)

  • COST: $400 ($360 Class, $40 Road Skills Fee)
    *A 4% processing fee is assessed for debit/credit payments bringing the total to $380.
  • WHEN: 1ST SATURDAY of Every Month
    *Dates subject to change in July and holidays.

  • TIME: 8am-2pm for Classroom Portion; At the end of the Class the student will take the State DMV Written Knowledge Test; After passing the State Knowledge Test, with 80% or above the student will Schedule at least 2 Driving appointments with our instructor to meet the 8 Hr Requirement.

THIRD PARTY TESTING (TPT) - ROAD SKILLS TEST for the DMV
  • We offer the Road Skills Testing in Ruston during the day, after hours, weekends, and in weather conditions when the DMV can't.
    Students may use their vehicle for the Road Skills Test or use our car Driver Ed car.
  • Cost $40.00

  • Applicants 18 year and over:

    Once the applicant has completed the appropriate Driver's Ed Class/Pre-licensing Course, the Road Skills Test MUST be conducted PRIOR to applying for a Full License at the DMV.
    The Road Skills Test is a separate driving test from your practice driving with your pre-licensing class.
    We will set this Road Skills Test up with our Students.
    The $40 fee is already included in your payment as indicated above.

*Once the Road Skills Test is Complete and Passed (a score of 80 and above); the student will be given a sealed enveolpe to take to the DMV. If the seal is broken prior to going to the DMV, it is considered Null and Void and the student will have to return to the Driving School to Retest.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

We accept cash, credit/debit cards, PayPal, or money orders made out to Head Start Driving.

If paying with credit/debit card there will be an extra 4% charge of $15.00 for a processing fee.

Cash and Money Order can be paid the first day of class or on the designated registration day.

At least a $200 Deposit is due on or before the 1st day of class. Complete payments must be made before to the student's driving appointments begin.

What Students must take to the DMV:

  • Original Birth Certificate AND Social Security Card
    *If student does not have these two Primary Documents or If you are an International Student... Refer to the Driver's Manual for acceptable documents.
  • Sealed Envelope from the Driving School (Certificate of Completion & DMV Documents will be inside). This envelope must remain sealed and only opened by the DMV to remain valid. If seal is broken the student must return to the Driving School and Retake the State Test ($50 retesting fee may apply).
  • At least $40 CASH (charges vary, check online)

CLASSROOM MANUAL- We will provide the student with a Classroom Manual to use. However, we encourage the students to download the Driver's Manual from Expresslane.org to review the information PRIOR to class because the student will be given the state test at the end of this class.
